The Hurricane SunDeck 2690 OB is a big and brawny deck boat. Let me say that again. It is a BIG and BRAWNY deck boat. So much so that the vessel is both U.S. Coast Guard and National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Yacht Certified, meeting specific equipment and construction standards and providing added confidence for safety-minded owners.
The new flagship of the Hurricane fleet, which includes 13 deck boat models from 18 to 26 feet, the 2690 runs on a hull developed by C. Raymond Hunt Associates. If that name sounds familiar, it should, as the company has created reliable hulls for seminal blue-water brands like Grady-White and Bertram. With a 26-foot length, 9-foot beam and variable deadrise running surface with wide chines, this boat is tailor-made for a dry, stable rides on large lakes and coastal waters. Go ahead and push your boundaries.
Another benefit of those enhanced dimensions is a notably roomy and accommodating interior. The beam is carried far forward, resulting in a bow area that’s the size of many cockpits on comparable-sized boats. And it’s deep. The lounge backrests rise over the shoulders of most passengers, and there are full coaming pads and grab handles for added comfort and security. Shore-goers and swimmers alike will love the big non-skid platform at the nose, which allows easy access to and from the beach or water.
The cockpit comes with a refreshment center to starboard, just aft of the helm, with a standard sink, storage locker and drink holders and optional stainless-steel grill and refrigerator. If you decide not to get the fridge, a 36-quart cooler does the trick. It lives under the portside lounge but can be accessed whenever via a clever hatch in the seat top. Hurricane calls this its Integrated Cooler Enclosure (ICE). There’s also a removable cockpit table and nice-sized head compartment with vanity, sink and vent window.
Another new trait of the SunDeck 2690 OB that won’t be as easily apparent, but is no less important, is the fully integrated stringer system. It results in a clean gelcoat finish inside nearly every compartment on the boat and also creates a sturdy “backbone” that is lighter weight, less likely to develop rattles and shakes over time, and is more corrosion-resistant. Remember, I said this boat was BIG and BRAWNY.
The SunDeck 2690 OB was designed exclusively for outboard power — hence the OB in its name — and it shows in the stern platform setup. Boarding “steps” on either side of the motor converge into a full-length platform with a wide entryway into the cockpit. It’s a simple yet elegant design that creates open flow from one area to the next. The boat can be rigged with Yamaha, Honda, Mercury or BRP engines, from 250 to 350 horsepower.
Two-tone vinyl and stainless-steel accents add style throughout. Last but certainly not least, this Hurricane earns major points for its many enticing options: fishing package with bow livewell and rod holders; premium package with Versa-Teak swim deck and head sole, pull-up cleats, deluxe stereo with transom remote and underwater lights; wakeboard tower with bimini, racks and speakers; and much more.
From the dealer maintenance side, nearly every serviceable item can be accessed easily and can be quickly removed if needed — even the bilge and fuel tank compartments are designed for easy cleaning. That’s smart design that you’ll appreciate when it comes to the inevitable repair and maintenance.
