Review: Tiara 3600 Coronet – Quimby's Cruising Guide

Review: Tiara 3600 Coronet

At its heart, the new 3600 Coronet is a delightful day boat with overnighter ambitions. Tiara designed the cockpit to be the “living room,” with seating everywhere plus a bridge deck that can be easily enclosed if the weather is too hot, cold or wet.

But, unlike most express cruises, Tiara didn’t try to overload the cabin, so it’s more livable than many larger yachts. The usual interior settees are missing — you’re encouraged to sit in the cockpit, where the view is best. What you do have is a small, efficient galley (to augment one in the cockpit) and, ta-da, room for a nicely sized head with a surprisingly large stall shower. No more wet head!

Forward, there is an island double berth with a real mattress and, tucked under the bridge amidships, is another double berth with full headroom to pull on your pants.

Back up top, the very comfortable helm features three monitors and user-friendly controls, all surrounded by composite windshield frames. No more corroded windshields! To port is a massive, wraparound lounge with removable table. Behind the bridge deck are two aft-facing settees and a plush transom bench with another table. The space is served by an outdoor galley with sink, refrigerator and grill.

Power starts at twin 375-horsepower Mercury 8.2 gas engines with shaft drives, while options range up to 380-horsepower Cummins diesels with pod drives featuring joystick maneuvering around the dock. Top speed is 32 knots fully loaded, with a comfortable cruise at 26 knots, burning one mile per gallon.A delightful combination of dayboat and weekender, the Tiara 3600 Coronet should be on your short list of capable cruisers. www.tiarayachts.com
